So I am way behind on these questions, and as such the answer to this one is a little strange. I purchased the Marvel Multiverse Role-playing Game yesterday, which was after August 4, the day of this question, but before my actually answering it. It may not matter, because the book came out of the box all torn up (despite the box being fine) and I had to return it so I haven’t even read it yet. I have been following the development and it looks interesting, although I think that there are curious aspects to the game I will get into on a later post.
So what game did I buy more recently prior to August 4? Here’s the answer:

Oh fantasy heartbreakers, why can’t I quit you? Talisman Adventures is a fantasy roleplaying game based off of a board game that’s been around for almost fifty years published by Games Workshop originally (and FFG later) which itself was based on fantasy roleplaying games and movies. What it isn’t is based heavily off of D&D 5E like so many other things, although it does have ancestries, classes, and levels. But the mechanics are different, fairly light, and look fun. It does have certain conceits that suggest its heritage as a board game, including fairly sketchy background material, but it is solid not-D&D offering.
