The end of the campaign

Last Friday we played the last session of my Dungeons and Dragons campaign. This campaign started over a year ago as a way for me to get one last game in with my eldest daughter and son before they moved away. It turned out that we would keep playing, having players leave and even more joining, until the group finally got to ninth level. They explored haunted monasteries, solved mysteries, free captives, and finally helped Nyenda, the Tortle monk, find his lost family.

That finally quest found them squaring off against a young adult dragon backed up by a swarm of dragon kobolds. As it turned out, the final boss fight was over way too quickly as one of the players managed to get a walloping 120 hp in damage in a single blow. Cleric, tempest domain, call lightning at 6th level, Channel Divinity: Destructive Wrath, critical hit. That’s 6d10, doubled, then max damage. Scratch one young red dragon.

But you know, it was a great, cinematic ending, with the denouement being Nyenda finding his family and the PC’s managing to liberate the entire island (and snag a small dragon’s hoard in the process).

So what’s next? An indeterminate period of time in temporary housing living out of a suitcase, or more accurately a large plastic tote. I’ll spend the time doing some solo stuff that requires minimal set-up while simultaneously planning out the next campaign.

Plus I’ll be scouting out the new area for possibilities. There’s a comic book store whose website suggests they might have RPG’s, although the site is a little underdone in this regard. (There is literally just a set of dice and a random D&D sourcebook on the online shopping section.) There’s a Facebook group that might be applicable, but I’m not seeing a lot of posts about groups. I got time, obviously, so we will see.
