Just this afternoon I was telling my brother-in-law that I was suffering a little “non-buyer’s remorse” by passing on a copy of the Starship Troopers starter set at 50% off. Yes, I know that the game is OOP, and that some are angry at Mongoose Publishing for discontinuing the line, but hey the miniatures are out there and the victims are the stores that are stuck with “dead” miniature lines. And I still like a lot of dead games.
Well, today I went to another FLGS, more of a comic/CCG place, and my brother-in-law yanks my sleeve and points to a corner. There is a Starship Troopers starter box for $6.99! Moreover, there are several box sets of other SST miniatures, each priced at $1.99! I snatch up the lot, and the guy behind the counter says, “I’ve got a whole bunch more behind the counter. I’ll sell the lot to you at two bucks a box, and help you carry them out to your car.”
Thirty three dollars later, I’ve got a new game, two sizable armies, and a new category for Strange Vistas. The total haul:
- Starship Troopers starter box
- 2 Tanker Bug boxes
- Warrior Bug box
- 2 Hopper Bug boxes
- 2 Rippler Mega Swarm boxes
- 2 M-9 “Chickenhawk” Marauder boxes
- M-8 “Ape” Marauder box
- M1A4 Power Suit box
I can still go back to the first place and snag a few others (like the all-woman Power Suit box) but for now I’m pretty set.
Well done on the find!
