Did you know the word “puce” comes the French word for flea? The brownish purple color was associated with the color of crushed fleas or bloodstains left behind on bedsheets. When Marie Antoinette’s dressmaker created a dress for her in that color, Louis XIV said she looked like a flea (not necessarily an insult, since the word was also a term of endearment) and the color rocketed to popularity among the nobility and elite.

Anyways, these aren’t fleas, they are giant tick miniatures from Reaper’s Dungeon Dwellers line but I thought a rich purple would look good on these guys.

Thank you to everyone who supported my return to miniature painting. Right after making that decision I received literally hundreds of dollars’ worth of commission requests for the woodshop, so I got sidetracked on my hobby time again. What’s worse, the last several gaming sessions had been cancelled so I used the last session’s worth of time to get these guys done. Slowly but surely!
